Here’s a look at my nature journal and some “just for fun” drawings in my other sketchbooks.
I was delighted to see a fox and her kits explore our backyard!
We’ve always had a healthy (or more than healthy) population of foxes. But it’s still always special to see the kits out and about.
I tried to capture some of their antics in my nature journal.
I love birding during spring migration! I encountered a large group of pine warblers enjoying box elder catkins. They are one of the cutest warblers, in my opinion. They look like they’re wearing little brown hats.
There were also tons of spring ephemerals, including an impressive showing of trout lilies.

Most of my work features animals, but I love drawing people too! I wanted to practice a little, so I chose two posts from r/redditgetsdrawn as my models.
These were quick, just for fun, portraits drawin in my sketchbook with gouache and pencils.
In January of 2022 I saw a barred owl for the first time ar Tyler Arboretum. Shortly after that, I realized that we had a barred owl family right in our neighborhood.
There ended up being three fledglings the first year, and we named the oldest Barry.
These photos of our owl family were taken by Zack Gillespie.
Our neighbor red tailed hawks have been very bold recently. Sitting low in trees and checking out Zack and I as we take our morning walks.
The larger female is recognizable by her white “eyebrows”
