Hello out there! It’s been a wild start to the y

Hello out there!
It’s been a wild start to the year!
January was my busiest yet, especially with orders from shops. You can now find my work in shops in 41 states! (Maybe I’ll get to all 50 this year).
Then I was sick pretty much all last month. The ‘Rona finally caught me after four years of avoiding it, and it wouldn’t let go!
Now I’m back in the studio. I’m playing a little catch up, and trying to make this month a little more balanced than the previous two. I want to concentrate on creative work going forward, but this year has definitely been unpredictable!

If you’ve picked up this raccoon print at a local market, you’ve probably heard me talk about my neighbor, Scritchy. (Kind of like a combo of Itchy and Scratchy from the Simpsons 😂).

Scritchy lived in a tree outside my window, and came back for several winters. But this year her home seems to be sublet by a family of squirrels. Still entertaining, but I miss seeing her! Who are your wild neighbors?

This time of year, very little drawing gets done. I’ve been filling holiday orders for shops, and all of your Etsy orders (thank you all!!). So I’m stringing garlands, folding cards, counting ornaments, and a bunch more unglamorous tasks. But I am so so grateful for it all!

The collective noun for a group of owls is a parliament.
.
I chose to draw barred owls for this illustration. In 2022 a mama barred owl made her nest nearby, and had three babies. She came back this year too! This drawing was based on lots of observations and pictures of this owl family taken by @zgillespiephoto .
.
Barred owls stay together as a family throughout the summer. We found the three babies hanging out together on branches last year, and named the oldest Barry. We never gave the mama a name though! Maybe next year.
.
